Raíz de Agua is dedicated to integrating dance, theater and live music. Our company seeks to merge both art forms and create performances that are a product of a continuous dialogue between dance and music with every choreography and musical composition.
Raíz de Agua's mission is to create an art form inspired by nature and our relationship with it. Earth, water, moon, the moon's vital relationship to female biology, life cycles, the metamorphic bird-man and the metaphorical human destiny weaver, have been some of our main themes, culled from over 10 years of continuous research which enhances all our productions.
From its inception, Raíz de Agua has worked with solo dancers and a maximum of two musicians, lending our performances to have a unique intimacy and high quality. Our performances have ranged from stage to street and we pride ourselves on always maintaining a close connection to our public and the communities we share our work with.
Raíz de Agua has drawn influences from contemporary and popular dance styles, Butoh, traditional dance and physical theater, to find a unique language with which it can express and create powerful works of art.
The music of Raíz de Agua is also the product of using the sounds of natural elements such as water, stones and leaves with traditional musical instruments, blending Afro-Caribbean, Venezuelan, and various contemporary music genres.
